The Volkswagen technology news continues as their American outfit has announced most 2016 models will be equipped with their all-new MIB II infotainment systems.

Billed as having one of the "most comprehensive suites of connected vehicle services and features available in the automotive industry today," the MIB II infotainment systems feature faster processors, crisper graphics and higher resolution displays.

More importantly, Composition Media and Discover Media variants gain App-Connect functionality.  That's a rather bland buzzword but it effectively means the infotainment systems will have Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink compatibility.  Volkswagen says this will enable them to become one of the "first automakers to offer three of the dominant technology standards available for in-vehicle smartphone integration."

The new infotainment systems will be offered on a variety of 2016 models and the first vehicles with the systems slated to arrive next month.  However, Eos and Touareg will be missing out on the upgrades.
