We all know the new A5 will receive an evolutionary and sharpened up design compared to the outgoing model in the same vein as the recently introduced A4 (B9), so we are not expecting any major styling changes. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean there aren't enough reasons to get excited about the new premium compact coupe from Ingolstadt which will have to face some fierce competition coming from the Mercedes C-Class Coupe and the BMW 4-Series Coupe.

By adopting the MLB Evo platform, the new A5 Coupe will lose an estimated 100 kg (220 lbs) even though the car's dimensions are likely to increase a little bit. By making it a tad bigger, the cabin will likely be roomier while the trunk should also be able to haul more cargo than the outgoing car.

The engine lineup will likely mirror the new A4, so expect to find the following units:

  • 1.4 TFSI: 150 PS (110 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft);
  • 2.0 TFSI: 190 PS (140 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft); 252 PS (185 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft);
  • 2.0 TDI: 150 PS (110 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft); 190 PS (140 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft);
  • 3.0 TDI: 218 PS (160 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft); 272 PS (200 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft).

An S5 Coupe will arrive shortly after the regular version with an upgraded TFSI V6 3.0-liter supercharged engine developing about 350 PS (257 kW) and Audi has already confirmed the crown jewel RS5 will lose the naturally aspirated V8 4.2-liter to make room for a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with more than 426 PS (313 kW).
