A new report sheds some light regarding the next generation Audi S4 likely coming out in 2016.

The paint on the A4 B9 hasn't even dried yet and Audi has already talked about the RS4 Avant's sooner than expected arrival, but until then there's going to be a warm S4 version. According to Car & Driver, it will stick with the old model's supercharged V6 3.0-liter TFSI engine but it will be massaged to deliver somewhere in the region of 350 PS (257 kW), thus making it around 17 PS (13 kW) than in the S4 B8. There's no word about the torque figure, but obviously it will also grow compared to the previous model's 440 Nm (324 lb-ft).

Needless to say, output will be channeled to Audi's well-known quattro permanent all-wheel drive system and the power transfer will be done through a 7-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission. The future of a six-speed manual gearbox is uncertain as it will depend on whether there will be enough people to want one.

The new S4 will be offered once again in Sedan and Avant flavors, but the latter is unlikely to reach U.S. dealerships. However, Audi USA has dropped a hint about the possibility of selling the RS4 Avant and/or the RS5 Sportback.

Since the RS4 Avant will arrive sooner than the usual, this means the S4 will also be out earlier, so it will likely be unveiled early next year.
