Mercedes just took the wraps off the facelifted A45 AMG but that hasn't stopped Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers from confirming the next-generation model will have an all-new four-cylinder engine that develops more than 400 bhp (298 kW).

Speaking to Auto Express, Moers said “It is important for our customers to have the most powerful car in the segment" so they're going to have to top rivals such as the upcoming Volkswagen Golf R 400.  He went on to say the model won't simply have a more powerful engine as "... it is important to offer the whole package."

Moers declined to say when the next-generation model will arrive but said it should be able to lap the Nürburgring in less than eight minutes.
