Peugeot CEO Maxime Picat published two photos on his Twitter account with a test mule of the 308 R HYbrid.

The attached images show PSA chairman Carlos Tavares getting inside what appears to be a test mule of the 308 R HYbrid which debuted as a concept earlier this year at Auto Shanghai. Although this doesn't necessarily mean Peugeot is actually considering a production version, it's good to know they haven't given up on a very interesting vehicle described as a "a family hatchback which is capable of supercar performance " thanks to a strong plug-in hybrid powertrain and an all-wheel drive system.

The concept combined a 1.6-liter THP gasoline engine delivering 270 PS (199 kW) with two electric motors, each churning an extra 115 PS (85 kW). This granted the 308 R HYbrid with a combined output of 500 PS (368 kW) and 730 Nm (593 lb-ft), enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 4 seconds and an electronically-limited 155 mph (250 km/h).

As a final note, Peugeot recently unveiled the 308 GTi so the range-topping R version won't be introduced sooner than 2016.
