Chris Evans has used his morning radio show to explain how he got the job to host to the revamped version of Top Gear.

According to Evans, he was offered the job last Wednesday when James May and Richard Hammond declined to return to the show.  After considering it, he had a meeting on Friday and "that was basically that."

Evans went on to say that before the announcement was made yesterday, he texted Clarkson, Hammond and May as well as former executive producer Andy Wilman.  He says Clarkson responded by saying "I knew they would, I knew you would, best of luck."
