Daimler, Bosch and car2go have joined forces to develop and test a fully automated valet parking service.

Designed for use in car parks, the system would allow cars to autonomously drive themselves to car2go customers waiting in a designated pick-up zone.  When they are done using the car, customers would simply return to the car park and the vehicle it drive itself back its assigned space.

In order to do this, the cars and car park will need to be outfitted with a number of new systems including cameras, sensors and special communications technology.

In a statement, Bosch board member Dr. Dirk Hoheisel said “Fully automated parking will be ready for mass-production before fully automated driving.”  He went on to say "Low driving speeds and the information from the car park infrastructure enable a fast implementation.”
