The Blue Oval company has disclosed plans for a "major Ford Performance news announcement" this Friday.

Without going into details, Ford says its performance division will make an announcement on June 12 at a news conference which will be streamed all over the world. Chairman Bill Ford, along with CEO Mark Fields and Group Vice President of Global Product Development Raj Nair will be joined by special guests to talk about the new mysterious product.

Chances are Ford Performance will unveil a race version of the new GT, as originally reported a while back by Motorsport. The track-only vehicle is expected to use a V6 3.5-liter turbocharged Roush Yates EcoBoost engine teamed up with a specially developed Ricardo gearbox. Ford Performance has already commenced testing procedures last month at the Calabogie Motorsports Park in Ontario, Canada.

It is believed the GT racecar will make an appearance on Saturday at Le Mans and will be shown in final guise at the Daytona 24 Hours on January 30 next year.
