The first diesel engine designed and developed by Suzuki has been revealed in India.
The 0.8-liter DDiS 125 unit produces 48 PS (35 kW) at 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm (92 lb-ft) of torque at 2,000 rpm. The powerplant will be installed in the Celerio, which will return an average 3.7 l/100 km. According to the manufacturer, this will be the most fuel efficient car made in India.
Suzuki says the DDiS 125 is compact and lightweight and has an aluminium cylinder block and a turbocharger suited to a 2-cylinder engine. The Japanese company claims that by decreasing compression ratio and installing a large intercooler, it has combined high torque in low RPM and fuel efficiency.
Offered in six different colors, the Celerio Diesel will be available in four trim levels with Indian prices starting at 465,393 rupees (around 7,265 USD).
