The front-wheel drive 1-Series Sedan has left a sour taste in the mouths of the BMW faithful but a new reporting is indicating the company could also offer a rear-wheel drive 2-Series Gran Coupe.

Details are limited but Auto Motor und Sport is reporting that BMW wants to expand the number of rear-wheel drive 2-Series variants and a 2-Series Gran Coupe is one possibility.  While nothing is official the magazine says the model could arrive as early as mid-2018.

While little is known about the model, the Gran Coupe moniker suggests the car would be positioned as a sportier and more upscale model than the 1-Series Sedan.
