Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski has revealed the company is close to approving a new subcompact crossover and a production version of the Santa Cruz concept.

Speaking to The Detroit Bureau, Zuchowski said “There is a very high probability we [will] get the approval of the truck soon."  The executive declined to go into specifics but revealed the truck has received more than a 90% approval rating from potential buyers in product clinics.

Zuchowski also hinted the company will offer a new compact crossover to battle recent entries such as the Chevrolet Trax, Jeep Renegade and Honda HR-V.  There's no word when the model will arrive but the executive said it won't be based on an "existing model already on sale in China" - presumably the ix25 - because the company decided it was too conservative for the U.S. market.
