Ford has announced the 2016 F-150 will be offered with a "gaseous-fuel prep package" that will enable the truck's 5.0-liter V8 engine to run on compressed natural gas or propane.

Available to order this summer, the package costs $315 and includes an upgraded intake, new exhaust valves and special valve seats.  However, customers will still have to take the vehicle to a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier to complete the conversion.  This costs approximately $7,500 to $9,500 depending on the fuel tank capacity.

While the conversion isn't cheap, Ford says CNG sells for an average of $2.11 per gallon - of gasoline equivalent - which makes it cheaper than petrol and diesel fuel.
