The 2017 Lincoln Continental could usher in a new nomenclature which eliminates the hodgepodge of MK- prefixes.

Speaking to Automotive News, Ford executive vice president Joe Hinrichs said “Without divulging the future, we’re very excited about the Continental name and the attention it’s gotten.”

Hinrichs went on to suggest the company could revert back to using traditional model names as a way to "distinguish itself" and "leverage its heritage."  The move would also ease confusion caused by the similar sounding MKC, MKZ, MKX and MKT names.
