Nissan recently unveiled the X-Trail Hybrid in Japan and a new report is indicating it could eventually be offered in the United States.

In an interview with Automotive News, Nissan's Nobusuke Toukura said the company was considering offering the model in America where it would be badged as a Rouge Hybrid.

There's no word on when a decision will be made but the X-Trail Hybrid features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.  It enables the crossover to return 20.6 km/L (48.4 mpg US / 4.8L/100km) despite offering better acceleration than models equipped with the conventional 2.5-liter petrol engine.
