The prototype was undergoing final testing and had slightly less camouflage which allows us to take a better look at those sharp headlights and taillights while the body is an evolution of today's design but it appears to be more angular and comes with a bigger hexagonal front grille. It will likely be a little bit bigger than the outgoing model taking into account the A4 is no longer Audi's base sedan as that role has been given to the A3 Sedan.

Expect a stretched wheelbase granting a more spacious cabin while the MLB Evo platform should enable an estimated weight loss of 100 kg (220 lbs) thanks to a more extensive use of aluminum and high-strength steel.

As far as the engines are concerned, the 2016 Audi A4 is expected to get a 1.4 TFSI with 125 & 150 & 180 HP, followed by a 2.0 TFSI with 225 & 245 HP, along with a 3.0 TFSI developing 272 HP. On the diesel side, the range will likely kick off with a 1.6 TDI rated at 120 HP, a 2.0 TDI with 125 & 150 & 177 & 190 & 220 HP and a 3.0 TDI offered with 218 & 260 HP.

Audi is also cooking up two plug-in hybrid versions which will be sold with the e-tron badge. One of them will use a 2.0 TFSI with 225 HP combined with a 35 HP electric motor and a 9-speed S tronic gearbox. As for the other, it will get a 2.0 TDI with 190 HP and 136 HP coming from two electric motors along with the same S tronic ‘box.

Later during the car's lifespan, a hotter S4 will be introduced and after that Audi will launch a range-topping RS4 which will allegedly lose the V8 4.2-liter naturally aspirated engine to make room for a twin-turbo six-cylinder which is believed will be more powerful than BMW M3's inline-six, 3.0-liter motor rated at 431 HP (317 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque.

Audi has already announced the next generation compact premium sedan will be revealed before the Frankfurt Motor Show so expect a debut sometime in August or even earlier.
