Our spy photographers have sent an additional batch of images with an undisguised prototype of the 2016 Smart ForTwo Cabrio.

Likely debuting in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Smart ForTwo Cabrio can be seen here without any sort of camouflage, except for the badges which for some reason remain hidden. Unsurprisingly, it looks the same as the regular ForTwo but instead of a fixed metal roof it adopts a folding canvas roof which will be electrically operated. Those side bards will be manually removable, just like on the outgoing model which recently received one last final special edition.

The cheapest version money can buy will come with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine developing just 61 HP (45 kW). The mid-range model makes use of the same engine but with 71 HP (52 kW) while the range-topping variant gets a punchier turbocharged 0.9-liter turbocharged engine with 90 HP (66 kW). If this isn't enough, you will have to wait for the Brabus version which is expected to offer around 120 HP (88 kW) from the same 0.9 turbo motor.
