BMW has decided to double i8 production at the Leipzig factory in Germany to match the high demand.

Back in November last year we heard there was an 18-month waiting list in some markets for the i8 and at that point BMW was considering boosting output. Now, BMW production boss Harald Krueger has announced during the annual press conference they have increased assembly rate from 10 to 20 cars per day at the plant in Leipzig.

Krueger said the current average waiting time is of more than four months, but it will be reduced significantly thanks to the 100% production hike which means we won't be hearing stories about $100,000 markups, jacking up the price of a US-spec BMW i8 to an insane $247,450.

We remind you BMW is currently analyzing the prospects of coming out with a third "i" model which will be launched after 2020 and won't be based on any existing model.
