An original Audi Quattro A1 rally car will be auctioned by the Bohnams on March 21 in Goodwood.
This one was manufactured in the first quarter of 1982 and has a chassis number 900012. The Group B monster was driven by Hannu Mikkola, who used it in the 1982 Monte Carlo Rally, finishing second behind the Opel Ascona of Walter Rohrl. It was then retained for training duties into the 1983 season before being converted by Audi to Group B specification and sold to a Finish VW/Audi importer. The next to drive it was the ex-SAAB rally driver, Antero Laine.
Power is provided by a 2.1-liter 5-cylinder petrol turbo unit with 200 bhp (149 kW) in the road-legal version and “considerably more” being available in competition tune. The model won the Manufacturers' Championship for Audi in 1982 and 1984 and the Drivers' Championship in 1983 and 1984.
The machine is expected to fetch between 240,000 GBP and 280,000 GBP (336,000-393,000 EUR).
