Mitsubishi's plan to offer two rebadged Renault sedans recently fell through but a new report is indicating the company is eyeing a partnership with Nissan.

According to sources who spoke to Automotive News, Mitsubishi is talking to Nissan about the possibility of working together on at least one sedan.

Details are limited but a Mitsubishi spokesperson told the publication a Lancer successor will be given priority since it's a global model. As a result, the Galant replacement is on an "indefinite hold" for the time being.

The spokesperson declined to confirm whether or not the company was talking with Nissan but said a partnership with a Japanese competitor is one possible option. They also stated the company could develop the car by themselves if needed.
