According to a recent report, Mercedes is getting ready to phase out the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine that powers a number of their high-performance AMG variants.

This won't happen overnight as Autocar is reporting the enginewill still be used to power several upcoming models including the S63 AMG Convertible which is slated to be introduced in 2016.

However, the engine is expected to be gradually phased and replaced by the company's new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that powers the C63 AMG and AMG GT. This isn't terribly surprising but the process could take a few years as the magazine reports the 5.5-liter V8 could still be around by the end of decade.
