Work continues on the Maserati Levante as our spies have caught a new mule in Scandinavia.

Based on the Ghibli, the prototype features a number of modifications including an increased ride height, a wider track and roof weights that simulate the additional mass of the crossover.  This makes the mule look  like it was created for a dystopian future but the production model should echo the Kubang concept which debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Levante will be offered with a variety of petrol engines including a V6 with outputs of 350 PS (257 kW) and 425 PS (312 kW) as well as a V8 that develops more than 560 PS (412 kW). The crossover will also have a diesel engine with outputs of 250 PS (184 kW), 275 PS (202 kW) and 340 PS (250 kW).

The Maserati Levante is slated to go into production later this year, so expect to see a debut at an upcoming auto show.
