An image showing what appears to be the facelifted BMW 1-Series has hit the web.

The attached low-res pic is a crop from tomorrow's issue of Auto Bild where the facelifted 1-Series is featured. We don't know for sure whether this is an official image from BMW or it is only a speculative render but judging by what we see, it appears to be the real deal. If so, BMW will probably reveal online the mid-cycle refresh for their entry-level model in the coming hours.

It makes sense taking into account last month's report which indicated a January reveal of the 1-Series. As for the facelift, it appears to bring much needed revisions to the front fascia as those peculiar headlights were removed to make room for more conventional clusters (with optional LEDs) similar to those of the 2-Series range.

Aside from the expected styling updates, the 1-Series will also come with three-cylinder engines sourced from the 2-Series Active Tourer and these smaller motors will power the entry-level 116i and 116d versions.

Sometime next year, the BMW 1-Series will spawn a sedan version that is rumored to get a front-wheel drive layout.
