The driver of a Porsche Panamera had the misfortune of crashing into a pond.
It turned out to be an unlucky start of the year for the owner of a Porsche Panamera 4S as he ended up in a pond in Chaozhou, a city in the Guangdong Province. According to local media, the Panamera was parked at the edge of a square in front of a college building and due to the slippery surface, the driver lost control of the car when driving away.
He ended up semi-submerged in the pond but chances are his Porsche Panamera 4S escaped without any serious damages, a car which in China carries a steep starting price of 1.39 million yuan (about $224,000), a lot more than in United States where the exact same model begins at $98,300. The difference comes from several taxes applied on imported luxury cars: 25 percent tax on cost, insurance and freight; 17 percent VAT and a consumption tax ranging between 1 and 40 percent depending on engine size.
