The new twin-scroll unit will likely produce 245 bhp (183 kW) and 270 lb-ft (357 Nm) of torque, but final output and fuel consumption details will be annoucned closer to the model's launch in 2015. The engine features new pistons, exhaust manifold, active oil system and new high-pressure direct-injection fuel system.

Production of the new engine is set to start in early 2015 at the Blue Oval's engine plant in Brook Park, Ohio. The powerplants will be then shipped to Oakville, Ontario, in Canada, where the 2015 Edge will be manufactured. It will be the first model of Ford in North America to be powered with the new 2.0-liter engine and the first 4-cylinder Edge ever to be available with a four-wheel-drive system.
