Already sold out, the Porsche 918 Spyder is the fastest car with global road homologation around the Nürburgring with a 6:57 lap time and in this video we observe how the hybrid supercar comes to life. The assembly line will operate until mid-2015 when the final unit will be completed out of a total of 918 cars.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is a worthy successor of the Carrera GT as its performance figures are staggering, with a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in 2.2 seconds (according to C&D) and a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 2.8 seconds. It needs 7.7 seconds to complete the 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) run and 22 seconds to get from 0 to 186 mph (300 km/h) while top speed stands at 214 mph (345 km/h).

Tipping the scales at 1,634 kg (-35 kg with Weissach package), the 918 Spyder mixes up a V8 4.6-liter naturally aspirated engine with two electric motors. The conventional engine develops 608 HP (447 kW) while the electric motors put out an extra 286 HP (210 kW) for a combined output of 887 HP (652 kW) and a maximum torque varying between 917 Nm (676 lb-ft) and 1,280 Nm (944 lb-ft).

Porsche has already confirmed a successor is being planned which won't be launched anytime soon but also "not in 20 years", according to Porsche Research and Development boss Wolfgang Hatz.
