Fiat has reportedly filed applications to trademark the 124 nameplate which could indicate the company is planning a new model.

According to Autoblog Spain, the manufacturer will introduce the 124 and the 124 Spider next year with possible Abarth modifications also planned. There’s still not much to report, but the 124 Spider nameplate refers to a four-seat convertible sports car marketed by Fiat from 1966 to 1980.

Our source also mentions it is not clear if the brand has trademarked this nameplate for a use on a future car or only to protect the name of the classic model.
