Alfa Romeo is reportedly working on a new lineup of diesel and petrol engines that will be offered for the future models of the brand.
According to Automotive News Europe, the first new engines – a diesel and two gasoline units, will be launched with the new midsize sedan, set to be unveiled in June 2015. The most powerful among them will be a 2.9-liter V6 petrol engine with direct injection and twin turbochargers, based on the 3.0-liter unit that Ferrari builds for Maserati. It will have a maximum output of up to 480 HP (353 kW).
A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine will be used as a base and will be available in outputs from 180 HP (132 kW) to 330 HP (243 kW). It will be mated to manual and automatic transmissions with rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive applications.
Diesel fans will be offered to buy a new 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with output from 135 HP (99 kW) to 210 HP (155 kW). A new 3.0-liter V6 diesel is also planned and it will be based on the unit that currently powers some of the Jeep and the Maserati models. Alfa will retune the engine and it will likely offer between 275 HP (202 kW) and 340 HP (250 kW).
