A report issued by Auto Bild sheds some light about the upcoming Audi Q1 set to go on sale in 2016.

Audi's most affordable crossover on sale today is the Q3 which kicks off at €29,600 in Germany but the Q1 will lower the bar to around €25,000 when it goes on sale in the spring of 2016. Designed by Marc Lichte, the Audi Q1 will be based on the A3 while in terms of dimensions it will be close to the Q3 which will grow in size early 2018 when the second generation is scheduled to come out.

The baby crossover will ride on Volkswagen Group's MQB platform and will be sold with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines starting out with a 140 HP & 250 Nm 1.4 TFSI. Up next should be a 180 HP & 280 Nm 1.8 TFSI and a 230 HP & 370 Nm 2.0 TFSI. Audi will also provide a couple of 2.0 TDI engines rated at 150 HP & 320 Nm and 184 HP & 380 Nm.

The report also mentions an SQ1 packing a 2.0 TDI upgraded to 231 HP & 500 Nm while sitting on top of the range will be an RS Q1 which hasn't been approved yet for production but if it will the model is going to get 310 HP & 380 Nm.
