An illegally imported classic MINI regarded as being unsafe has been crushed by the US Customs and Border Protection.

The classic MINI had a VIN indicating it was a 1988 model but it had a different engine while the steering wheel was on the other side and according to the authorities it was actually from around 2000. The vehicle was crushed as part of the "Operation Atlantic" established by the US Customs and Border Protection in collaboration with British law enforcement to keep off the road imported cars regarded as being unsafe.

The operation targets MINIs and Land Rover Defenders which are being illegally imported and this MINI is actually only one of around 100 vehicles that will be crushed. To show they mean business, government officials released a video from a junkyard in New Jersey where the car was utterly and violently destroyed.
