Our spies have sent us a fresh video with the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class while undergoing testing.

Daimler's mid-size executive sedan is about to receive a new generation which will source the Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) from the smaller C-Class. The latter got bigger with the new gen to make room for the baby CLA sedan and now Mercedes-Benz has to make the E-Class bigger to distance it from the C. Most of the added size will go into the wheelbase so expect a more spacious cabin, especially at the back where the passengers will get to enjoy the additional legroom.

Although wrapped in camouflage, it's still easy to notice the new E will borrow most of the design cues from its brothers, including the interior cabin layout. Despite growing in size, the MRA platform will enable a weight loss but an exact number is not known at this point.

Under the hood some big changes are being planned as reports are indicating a new family of inline-six motors as well as a three-cylinder engine to power the entry-level version. At the other end of the spectrum, the twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter from the AMG GT and C63 AMG will be carried over but with a different output.

The sedan will be the first to come out and is rumored to go on sale in March 2016, while a longer wheelbase sedan is also planned together with the usual coupe, estate and cabrio body styles set to arrive later.
