The Mercedes-Maybach S400 has been spied undergoing testing on the streets of Stuttgart in Germany.

Daimler resurrected the "Maybach" nameplate last month when they introduced the "Mercedes-Maybach" sub-brand which for the moment only includes a more luxurious S-Class. Initially it will be available only as an S600 model equipped with a 530 HP twin-turbo V12 6.0-liter engine but the range will be shortly expanded with an S500 and an S400.

Based on a slideshow presented during the launch event, the S400 will be available exclusively with a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system that will receive 333 HP (245 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) from a V6 3.0-liter engine. Seen here is a prototype testing at home in Stuttgart and most likely the S400 will serve as the base model since it's highly unlikely Daimler will go below this engine which is tailored mostly for the Chinese market.
