According to a source close to Lexus, Toyota's premium marque is currently analyzing the options for an IS Convertible replacement.
Lexus unveiled the LF-C2 concept last month at the Los Angeles Auto Show and we all thought it would eventually evolve into a production version with the "RC Convertible" moniker. However, shortly after its reveal, Lexus was quick to point out the car is only a concept and won't get a production version. Now, a person familiar with the firm's planning says Lexus hasn't given up on the idea to come out with a production model labeled as the RC Convertible and based on the LF-C2.
An alternative to this would be to introduce a convertible variant of the already confirmed LF-LC production version which will be based on the stunning concept from a couple of years ago. The LF-LC Coupe won't be categorized as an LFA successor as Lexus says it will not be a limited-run production model as opposed to the LFA which was offered in only 500 examples.
As a final note, a replacement for the IS Convertible can't come soon enough taking into account sales of Lexus' only open-top model have continuously declined in the last four years.
