Koenigsegg CEO Christian von Koenigsegg has announced his intention to set a new Nürburgring lap record in 2015.

Speaking to Car & Driver, Koenigsegg says he hates the need to set a record but "this is one of the ways you prove yourself in this part of the market.” As a result, the company will attempt to set a record in the Agera R before attempting another record in the more powerful One:1.

Koenigsegg was tight lipped on their estimated times but one source told the magazine that the One:1 could lap the Nordschleife in roughly 6:30. This would easily beat the Porsche 918 Spyder which accomplished the same task in 6:57.

While a handful of Nürburgring lap records have raised a few eyebrows - here's looking at you Holden and Nissan - Koenigsegg says they want to be "completely fair" and open with their attempts.
