Audi doesn't have the best track record with electric vehicles but that hasn't stopped technical development boss Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg from confirming plans for a potential Tesla Model S competitor.

Talking to Auto Express, Hackenberg said the technology being developed for the R8 e-tron will be carried over to another model and that it will not be a sports car. He declined to go into specifics but stated the model is currently under development and should arrive in 2017.

That's a little vague but the magazine is reporting the model will likely be a sedan with a 280 mile (450 km) range. This seems plausible as Porsche is also rumored to be working on an electric Pajun variant with an range in excess of 250 miles (402 km).
