Volkswagen has announced a series of updates to the 2015 Beetle and Beetle Convertible.

First and foremost, the model will be offered with five "new" engines that are more fuel-efficient and comply with Euro 6 emissions standards. Volkswagen declined to go into specifics but the three petrol engines produce 105 PS (77 kW), 150 PS (110 kW) and 220 PS (162 kW) while the diesel engines develop 110 PS (81 kW) and 150 PS (110 kW).

The model also gains an optional "Discover Media" navigation system, a rearview camera, a Rear Traffic Alert system, a Blind Spot monitor and a DSG gearbox with a coasting function which automatically shifts into neutral when no acceleration is detected. Other highlights include three new interior color packages: Tornado Red, Pure White and Reflex Silver Metallic.

The updated Beetle will go on sale later this year and German pricing starts at €17,825 for the coupe and €22,125 for the convertible.
