New details are emerging about the cooperation between Mitsubishi and Renault for platform sharing.

Back in November last year Mitsubishi and the Renault-Nissan alliance joined forces to share products, technologies and manufacturing capacities and now it seems the two parties have agreed about their next move. Mitsubishi will be introducing a compact sedan based on a Renault or Nissan which will act as a replacement for the slow-selling Lancer.

The two still haven't figured out whether it will be based on a Renault or a Nissan while a decision regarding production location hasn't been established yet. Mitsubishi did announce the compact sedan is going to be a global model and could make it into Europe.

There's also going to be mid-size sedan based on the Renault Latitude (Samsung SM5) which will be commercialized in United States and Canada. It will actually be assembled by Renault Samsung in Busan, South Korea and is scheduled to go on sale in 2-3 years, according to Mitsubishi CEO Osamu Masuko.
