The strip tease continues as the 2016 Audi Q7 has been spied wearing less camouflage than ever before.

Snapped undergoing testing in Germany, the latest pictures reveal the model's single frame grille and Matrix LED headlights. The rest of the car is pretty evolutionary but we can see restyled mirrors, larger taillights and a stylish dual exhaust system.

As we have previously reported, the 2016 Q7 will ride on the new MLB Evo platform that will eventually underpin a variety of models including the next-generation A4 and A8. The change should enable the crossover to be significantly lighter than its predecessor and some reports are a claiming a weight savings of up to 800 lbs (363 kg).

Engine options will likely include the usual suspects, so expect a variety of six- and eight-cylinder petrol and diesel units. There will also be a new plug-in hybrid variant that could use a 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. This setup should enable the crossover to produce a combined maximum output of 373 PS (275kW) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. More importantly, the model is expected to consume less than 4.0L/100km (58.8 mpg US / 70.6 mpg UK) and have an electric only range in excess of 50 km (31 miles).
