Lotus has announced plans to offer an Exige S Automatic.

Lotus has announced plans to offer an Exige S Automatic.

Set to go on sale in January, the model will feature a six-speed automatic transmission that promises to combine the "involvement of a manual paddle-shift with all the convenience of an automatic." The transmission will also have a Sport and Race mode with an "optimized gear selection and response [that] deliver quicker all-round performance when a sportier experience is desired."

The model is currently completing its final round of testing but Lotus says the Exige S Automatic accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds which is 0.1 seconds faster than its manual counterpart. The company also said the model has posted the same lap time as the manual variant on the Hethel test track.

The automatic transmission will cost £2,000 (€2,185) and will be an option on both the Exige S and Exige S Roadster.
