Cadillac Chief Marketing Officer Uwe Ellinghaus has revealed the company's new alphanumeric naming structure will also include an "XT" prefix to indentify crossovers.

Speaking to Forbes, Ellinghaus said the change is a "logical" step and will provide room for the company's lineup to grow.

While the announcement has caused a lot of backlash, Ellinghaus said “It’s a logical thing to give some mental space like this in your naming scheme." He added, “So many other brands have done that sort of thing, across industries. It’s not rocket science."

Despite touting the benefits of the new nomenclature, Ellinghaus reportedly confirmed the Escalade name will stick around.
