Volkswagen has released a new promotional video for the 544 bhp Beetle Global Rallycross (GRC).

The vehicle will be seen in action this weekend when the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team will start in a two-race event at the Port of Los Angeles. Scott Speed will be driving the #77 7UP Volkswagen while Tanner Foust will be behind the wheel of the #34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen.

The track-only Volkswagen Beetle GRC features an extensive array of modifications starting out with a wider body equipped with aerodynamic mirrors, huge rear wing and side scoops. It rides on 17-inch alloys wrapped around in Yokohama tires and also benefits from an uprated suspension and beefier brakes.

Motivation comes from a 4-cylinder 1.6-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline engine delivering no less than 544 bhp (405 kW) to an all-wheel drive system through a 6-speed sequential transmission. Thanks to this hardware arrangement, the Beetle Global Rallycross needs only 2.1 seconds to cover the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint.
