Mazda has released a new video in which the company's design director Derek Jenkins gives a thorough explanation of the 2016 MX-5's styling.

The extended walkaround was conducted for invited guests during the car's launch event in Monterey, California where Jenkins explained all there is to know about the MX-5 looks. It adopts the latest implementation of the KODO - Soul of Motion design language and compared to the outgoing model it's 20mm lower, 105mm shorter and 10mm wider. The smaller dimensions combined with the SKYACTIV-CHASSIS have enabled a significant weight reduction of 100 kg (220 lbs).

Featuring a perfect 50:50 weight distribution, the entry-level 2016 Mazda MX-5 will reportedly get a 4-cylinder 1.5-liter engine developing 128 bhp (96 kW) and more than 144 Nm (106 lb-ft) all wrapped around in a package weighing only 1,020 kg (2,248 lbs) before adding optional equipment. There will also be a larger engine, possibly a 2.0-liter with a rumored 200 bhp (149 kW) output.

Details about the engine lineup will likely be disclosed early next month at the Paris Motor Show.
