It's been quite some time since we last saw the third generation open-top Audi TT but now a prototype was spotted testing at the 'Ring with the fabric roof in position. Despite the camouflage, we all know the Roadster will look virtually the same as the TT Coupe except for the folding soft top and the antiroll bars behind the seats.

Engines will be carried over from the fixed roof version so expect a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo with 230 PS (169 kW) & 310 PS (228 kW) along with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel rated at 184 PS (135 kW). Front-wheel drive will be standard but at an additional cost Audi will offer its quattro all-wheel drive arrangement. Clients will have to select between a standard six-speed manual transmission and a more expensive six-speed S tronic equipped with a launch control system.

We won't be too surprised if Audi will decide to bring the car to next month's Paris Motor Show. If that won't happen, a March 2015 reveal at the Geneva Motor Show is almost a certainty.
