Mazda's General Manager of Global Sales and Marketing has revealed some new details about Mazda3 MPS.

Speaking to Motoring, Yasuhiro Aoyama said the company needs more powerful turbocharged petrol engines and they "will be a part of our future progress." However, he pointed out the company already a high-performance diesel engine so they're still debating which way to go for the Mazda3 MPS.

Mazda2 deputy program manager of vehicle development, Kengo Fukushima, declined to say when the model would arrive but hinted "We started [MPS] with the Mazda6, then the second one was Mazda3. So [the] next-generation [MPS] would be [a] Mazda3." Fukushima also reiterated his desire for a new Mazda2 MPS but said the model hasn't been approved as of yet.
