The Rally Germany shakedown was halted when Thierry Neuville heavily rolled his Hyundai i20 WRC.
The Belgian driver and co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul went off the road and rolled six times in a vineyard while making their third pass through the 4.60 km Konz stage. They crashed on a double left corner about 1.7 km after the start. Luckily, neither Neuville nor co-driver Gilsoul were injured in the accident.
A day after the crash it was announced the Belgian duo will start the rally if the car is repaired on time. A Hyundai spokesperson told autosport.com "We have a little bit of work to do, but the car's OK. It just needs some panels, doors, maybe wings, a windscreen and a little bit of tape and it'll be fine. There are no major mechanical issues with the car at all and the roll cage wasn't damaged. The car did roll six times, but it was into the vineyards and it looks like they took some of the impact”.
