Styling follows in the vein of its predecessor with a number of updates to keep it looking fresh. We were giving a taste of things to come in the form of the striking Opel Monza Concept.

Under the skin, there will be some quite extensive changes that will combine to give a weight reduction of roughly 100kg (220lbs) over the current model. One of the most significant changes will be the introduction if an independent rear suspension that replaces the current Watts link setup.

Opel are currently in the midst of developing or upgrading their engine line-up therefore we expect to see some improvements in this department in the new Astra. There are no specific details so far, although we can expect a range of both gasoline and diesel units with some improved fuel economy or emissions figures.

The Astra will be unveiled in the hatchback form during 2015 ahead of a 2016 launch. Further down the line, it will be joined by estate/wagon, coupe and sedan variants before being rounded off with a brutal OPC version.
