Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann has revealed some new details about the next-generation Meriva and Zafira.

Speaking to Top Gear, Neumann said the "Meriva and Zafira both created segments, but both got larger and too expensive for families." He went on to say people want "the SUV look" and next Meriva and Zafira will go "in this direction."

Little else is known about the models but they will ride on platforms developed by PSA Peugeot Citroen. The new Meriva is scheduled to go on sale in late 2016 and it will be built at GM's España plant in Zaragoza, Spain.
