The small yet punch three-cylinder 1.0-liter engine is hugely popular among Ford customers as in the first half of 2014 around 120,000 cars sold in Europe had the EcoBoost motor which has recently won the International Engine of the Year award. Ford says it accounts for 20 percent of the company's European sales and compared to the first six months of last year deliveries of EcoBoost-powered vehicles went up by more than 15 percent.

In the first half of the year, 47 percent of B-MAX buyers chose the 1.0 EcoBoost while 33 percent of Focus clients configured the vehicle with this motor. In addition, it was also a popular choice among Fiesta customers as 30 percent of them opted for the three-cylinder unit.

Ford is offering the EcoBoost engine in 100 PS and 125 PS flavors and recently they introduced an uprated 140 PS variant in the Fiesta Black & Red Editions.
