Our spies have sent us a second batch of pics with a more powerful Renault Twingo currently in development.

In a previous set of spy pics we referred to the hotter Twingo as wearing the "RS" moniker but upon further investigation we found out the company's design senior vice president Laurens van den Acker said a few months ago it's unlikely to happen. The main reason as to why it won't see the light of production day is because there isn't enough space inside the engine bay to squeeze a larger motor which would have to develop at least 150 bhp (112 kW) in order to be worthy of the RS designation, according to Renault Sport Tehnologies CEO Patrice Ratti.

That being said, the prototype seen here is probably of a Twingo GT which will retain the regular model's rear drum brakes but will come with an extra air intake below the front grille along with twin exhaust pipes at the back. Power will probably come from the same 0.9-liter TCe three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine which will likely be uprated to around 110-120 bhp.

It should be out sometime next year around the same time when Smart will introduce a Brabus-prepared ForTwo.
