Prof. Dr. Herbert Kohler has revealed some new details about the next-generation of Mercedes fuel cell vehicles.

Speaking to Automobilwoche, Kohler said the company could have launched a full-production fuel cell vehicle in 2014 or 2015 but those dates were pushed back due to the partnership with Ford and Renault-Nissan. The executive went on to say partnership will significantly reduce costs as all three automakers will use as many common components as possible.

While the partnership pushed the launch back to 2017, Kohler isn't worried about the delay even though Honda and Toyota will be given a bit of a head start.

Kohler went on to say he wants their fuel cell vehicle to be priced competitively with a hybrid version of a comparable model.
