A handful of Mercedes C-Class Convertible prototypes have been spotted at the company's technical development center.

Caught being loaded onto a trailer, the pictures reveal the model will follow in the footsteps of the sedan but adopt new body work aft of the A-pillar. The camouflage hides a lot of detail but the convertible has a more curvaceous shoulder line, a smaller trunk and a retractable soft top.

Our spies couldn't get close enough to snap interior photos but Mercedes is showing a mockup of the cabin at their museum in Stuttgart. The mockup shows a familiar looking cockpit that has been equipped with power tilt/slide front seats and a new row of buttons that control the soft top and side windows.

Engine options will likely carryover from the standard model so a variety of petrol and diesel options including a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 241 bhp (179 kW) and a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 329 bhp (245 kW).
